We want this site to be usable by as many people as possible. This page describes how we try to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 level AA, and how to report problems.
What we do
- Colour contrast on text and interactive elements meets WCAG AA.
- The site is navigable by keyboard alone.
- Interactive controls have accessible names and ARIA labels where semantics alone do not convey role.
- Every content image has descriptive alt text, or an empty alt when the image is decorative.
- Headings are used in order and do not skip levels.
- Video, where embedded, includes captions.
- Light and dark modes are both tested for contrast.
- The site works without JavaScript enabled (JS adds interactivity, not content).
Known gaps
Some older archived articles imported from our previous CMS may have images without alt text. We are fixing these on a rolling basis. If a specific article is giving you trouble, please tell us and we will prioritise it.
Reporting a problem
If anything on the site is inaccessible to you, please write to accessibility@alvernoalpha.com describing the page, the problem, and the assistive technology you are using. We aim to respond within 48 hours.
