Corrections policy

If we made a factual error, we want to know. Tell us and we will fix it.

How to flag an error

Write to corrections@alvernoalpha.com with three pieces of information:

  1. The article URL.
  2. The exact sentence you believe to be wrong.
  3. What you believe the correct information is, and a link or citation if possible.

What we do when an error is confirmed

Substantive factual corrections are made in the article body AND noted at the bottom of the article in a "Correction" block, dated and describing the nature of the change. We do not silently edit errors out of existence. Typos and minor formatting fixes are not annotated.

Significant corrections

If an error is material enough to change the meaning of the story (a wrong number, a misattributed quote, a mis-identified person), we also:

Responding to a correction request

We aim to respond within 48 hours, seven days a week. If we do not correct, we will explain why with reference to our sources.

Right of reply

If you are named in a story and believe it misrepresents you, write to editor@alvernoalpha.com. We will read what you have to say and, where we agree, update the story.
